THE HERTS 10K CHALLENGE 2008

Stop press!

Runner's World Magazine have just included The HERTS 10K Challenge in their official listing of the 50 Best British Races of 2008, now up one place at no.35, from no.36 (in 2007) which is a fantastic achievement for the event! Runner’s World have included our event due to the many positive comments from competitors on the atmosphere of race day, the event organisation and the new changes to the course, which went down very well with all who took part! Thank you to all who left such wonderful comment and helped to make this event the success it is today.

To All Our HERTS 10K Challengers

We'd like to say a huge 'Thank You' to everyone who took part in The HERTS 10K Challenge 2008 making it the biggest and most successful event to date. We would also like to thank all those who have already sent in their sponsorship monies bringing our total so far to over £95,000!

Record Numbers turnout for 2008!

The 3rd Annual HERTS 10K Challenge 2008 took place on Sunday 12th October 2008 at Rothamsted Research in Harpenden, was once again a massive success and reached record numbers to date!

In just year three, The HERTS 10K Challenge reached a final figure of 2,504 entries on the day, helping to continue making the race one of the fastest growing regional 10K events in the country. All the Runners and Walkers enjoyed some wonderfully warm weather together with a fantastic atmosphere along the six mile multi-terrain course taking challengers through the beautiful countryside surrounding Harpenden.

The HERTS 10K Challenge is all in aid of Grove House Hospice and supported by Main and Founding Sponsor Levy Associates, IT and Pharmaceutical Recruitment Consultants, based in St Albans and Amsterdam.  The event is promoted by Fast Talk Promotions onbehalf of Levy Associates and The Grove House organising team.

The race not only saw an amazing amount of runners and walkers on the day, but gained a record number of spectators showing their support, with lots more lining the race route all cheering the participants on.

This year’s race was started by none other than the Voice of Football, John Motson or ‘Motty’ to his fans, who turned up to offer his support, sent the Runners and Walkers on their way, then hot footed it to the start line, to take part, finishing in just over an hour.

The event was also supported by former Arsenal and England International player Alan Smith, the Major of Harpenden, Councillor Pat Kent and Conservative MP for St Albans, Ann Main who both helped present the race cups to the winners, along with John Motson and Lawrence Levy, M.D of Levy Associates, Founder of the race and Main Sponsor.

Paul Parrish, Fundraising Director for Grove House said: “The HERTS 10K Challenge 2008 is the biggest event we have done to date and we’re truly amazed and very proud at the amount of runners and walkers that signed up to take up this year’s challenge and support Grove House.  It was an incredible sight to see all the runners and walkers lined up at the start, plus all those spectators who kindly turned up to offer their support.  We hope they will continue with their support by helping to raise sponsorship, so that we can hopefully hit this year’s target of £150,000.

I’d like to also give a massive thanks to Donna Ross and Karen Witchalls of Fast Talk Promotions who promoted and over saw the organisation of this year’s event together with the Grove House Team, onbehalf of Levy Associates, the Main Sponsor, who have been the major force behind making this event a true success over the last three years!  I would also like to thank Rothamsted Research for allowing the use of their land, the police for their continued support, plus our huge army of volunteers and staff at Levy Associates and Grove House who all gave up their weekend and Sunday morning to make the event run smoothly. Finally, a huge thank you to you all for your amazing fundraising efforts over the past three years which means we can now begin to roll out our brand new Hospice at Home service”
